Design Systems Breakfast with Fernando Vía Canel

On November 20th, 2025, we gathered for another Design Systems Breakfast — our friendly morning meetup for UX designers and UI developers to share coffee, ideas, and insights.

This session featured Fernando Vía Canel, a frontend engineer that loves design, who brought an incredible wealth of experience in building and scaling design systems. Fernando co-founded the design system at Klarna and helped scale the design system of the UI of Minecraft Bedrock. He is now creating a startup that tests design systems by taking screenshots of all component variations at devblanket.com.

Fernando presented "A Timeline of Design Systems" with the subtitle "Bridging the gap between design and code, early 2000's to the present". It was a fascinating journey through the evolution of design systems, showing how we've arrived at where we are today.
